Snowmobiling Guide For Sunset Country
Imagine the magic of stepping out of a secluded
cabin into an ancient forest that's just begging you to come make tracks on its
clean white floor. Share wide-open spaces with hearty, free-roaming wildlife. Be
dazzled by the prisms the sun makes as it plays through ice-laden branches. Ride
with the wind or slice through it as nature's wonders and spectacular vistas
take your breath away. Trek from one friendly community to the next knowing a
warm welcome always awaits you. Criss cross terrain that varies from gently
rolling to genuinely challenging. Or simply ride beside a frozen river into the
sunset.
The joys of our winter extend way beyond OFSC trails. The ice fishing in Sunset
Country is legendary. Walk, ski or sled right onto solid lakes. Drop bait next
to a waterfall frozen in suspended animation. Land a trophy size fighter and
cook it over your campfire. Or enter it in a fishing derby - they happen all
season throughout the region. Bait and tackle are readily available at many
accommodations and service stations.
Or if you're looking for a beautiful wilderness
experience, strap on your cross-country skis at your door and wend your way
through towering forests. Catch a glimpse of deer, fox, moose or behold majestic
bald eagles soaring above.
Take a totally different route and try snowshoeing or dogsledding, both are
great ways to explore our shores for ancient pictographs. Or cut some fine
figure eights on anyone of our many lakes.
