Snowmobiling Guide For Southwestern Ontario
Southwestern Ontario is a snowy wonderland that
benefits from over 30 years of trail building and grooming. Its proven and
extensive network of OSFC snowmobile trails is just being discovered by touring
riders who love having great riding so close to home. Stretching from Highway
401 north to the tip of the Bruce Peninsula and from Lake Huron to
Kitchener/Waterloo, this rural winter haven offers an incredible variety of
riding opportunities on about 6,700 kilometres (4,163 miles) of Trans Ontario
Provincial and regional trails.
Southwestern Ontario is the new of choice for many riders located west of
the Greater Toronto Area. As a major gateway for visitors from Michigan, Ohio,
Indiana, New York and Pennsylvania, this incredible snowmobiling locale also
provides easy access for those trailering through Detroit, Port Huron, Niagara
Falls and Buffalo.
Tucked alongside the shores of Lake Huron, Southwestern
Ontario receives plentiful lake effect snow throughout the winter, espically in
Bruce and Grey counties, located in the northeast corner near the town of Owen
Sound. The terrain ranges from rolling farmland to the rugged escarpment of the
Canadian Shield with panoramic views of Georgian Bay and Lake Huron. A variety
of gas stations, dealerships, restaurants and lodgings offering snowmobile
friendly hospitality and service, make exploring this area of small town Ontario
easy.
As many American riders have have recently discovered to their delight,
Southwestern Ontario offers prime snowmobiling on groomed trails, far away from
the crowds, but so close to home.
