Snowmobiling Guide For Near North
When its splendid fall displays draw to a close,
the Near North, part of Blue Sky Region, transforms itself into a wondrous land
of snow-sculpted forests, frozen lakes dusted with white, and little towns and
villages that look just like Christmas cards.
Home of The Greatest Snow on Earth, the Near North Trail Association maintains
3,500 km (2,100 mi.) of
groomed and marked OFSC snowmobiling trails that stretch from Novar to Temagami,
and from the French River to Mattawa. Offering limitless riding possibilities
for every level of expertise, this spectacular area is known for its self guided
tours. For all levels, snowmobiling is easy and accessible in the Near North -
packages, snowmobile rentals and complete outfitting is available.
The Near North dishes up a treasure trove of other winter-friendly activities.
Cross-country ski or snowshoe on trails that thread through awesome terrain and
majestic forests. Fly down the slopes of North Bay's Jack Pine Hill. Book a
dogsledding excursion and venture into the wilderness for an afternoon or a
week. Ice fish for perch, whitefish, lake trout, walleye, northern pike and
herring on Lake Nipissing, Lake Nosbonsing and other great spots. And stay on to
enjoy a flurry of special winter events and carnivals, including maple sugar
festivals, throughout the whole region.
Look for accommodations throughout the region that vary from cottages, camps and
lodges to hotels and motels.
